Learning to Glow with Life

The day and times everyday tell us where we fall short, what we are not and what we cannot become.

When are we given the opportunity to feel the sunshine of a positive word, a positive line in the press?

The excitement in what we call our “life” seems to have sadly been put on auto-pilot by the influences around us.

So here is 2 cents that may hopefully be the shiny 2 coins that you look at in peace because you know it represents a piece of hope.

We may always miss it but it we can find comfort, love and inspiration from our immediate surrounding people, our inner thoughts and our strengths themselves.

So, here’s a one-step check for inspiration. Look back at your happiest times in life.

What were they?

What were you doing?

Where was it?

Who was there?

From there think…are there any common occurances?

A common activity, environment for example.

Take this happy thought and try to bring it to reality…how can it be applied to everyday life? Career? Upcoming decisions?

Hopefully, this can help guide you towards a more soul-glowing, smile evoking and enlightened decision for you.  I know it has definitely helped me!

And there you have it!

Thank you for listening in and if you have any thoughts, ideas, feedback feel free to comment!

Hasta luego

Where we are

As we all stand at our points in our lives.

There are times when we wonder if where we’re headed is the correct path or at least leads to the destination which we hold our eyes to.

Now the past 6 months I’ve lived in Korea. A frivolous (meaning I saves $0 in 6 months), but highly action-packed lifestyle that has led to a halt. Too much baseless enjoyment for a short-term fix. While wonderful, have not really filled me with a sense of fulfillment whatsoever. But! They have brought me to the point where I can understand the significance of taking small steps to a more fuller life.

What sort of small steps?

- Human dialogue

The type of conversation that lets us grow together – not as gesture of ‘dumping one’s thoughts on another to get it off their chest’ but to feel like something genuine has been shared even after the hang out. It doesn’t have to be serious or even useful while the context of this does presume it. A good heartful laugh, a grin that doesn’t disappear at a shared recollection…or a shared silence to think a matter together. Let me know if this makes sense. Lol

- Defining You

OK. This is where we should all understand that in no way am I or is anyone better than You. You are you and you are the best you! Easy right? Maybe not…The mind controls the way we control this way of thought. We’re all rather caught up on the ‘other’s’ conception of us. So we fall, falter, become depressed, nervous etc. These are all natural but we all have something we are exceptionally good at. Even if it is a shared talent we can always find a way to layer a spin on it that is uniquely You. From going to the gym, to walking a dog, to even just doodling (there are better examples but please try to apply this to yourself even if for a 17 second pause) we can fuse our love with some form of purpose.

There’s two for today. Let’s take it slow.

I am all ears for your thoughts so feel free to comment.

With a smile, from Korea.

Where do we stand with ourselves? 09 is just fine

May 27th, 2009

09 is just fine.

It seems there are many turns in our life wherein each decision paves the way to a new direction.

Every year brings a new one…

Different aspects of our life are tested…

and our strengths and weaknesses truly come out.

These are those pivotal times in life where one can look back at the road they’ve travelled, let their eyes glean with tears and be truly proud of where they are standing.

Many of us fall to our own vices…

Our poor judgement of people, ourselves, a system that controls our lives, a culture or whatever may be relevant to you.

Hopefully before my 25th birthday in July – a new road will be set in place or the current road shows its destination point. But even before that happens…

It is the mindset that encaptures a true sense of pride in who we are, who we have become and who we will be that instills us with the motivation to push on with hope and happiness.

We are all not perfect but we are all blessed with many unique talents and quirks.

Whether we look back to reminisce or forward towards aspirations, hold your head up with pride (and perhaps humility for some mistakes we have made as we are but humans) and march on.

The road’s shorter than we think, but when you’re walking it – we just don’t know the duration.

So for the final note, stand for who you are…be proud…be dignified and be fulfilled.

Peace and God bless

Our Purpose in life?

May 4th, 2008

Religion  – a subject that is well swept under the carpet and that can a conversation awkward. It’s part of the designated ‘no-no’ talk topics. the others being sexual views (unless it’s between close people), politics, death, racism just off the top of my head.

My religion is Christianity (Protestant) – although many of us find atheism a comfort and to a certain extent find it comforting that all that we do in our lives whether it be good or bad, is all that happens and its over.

It is perhaps the ideal of being by judged by One that is higher that is most hard to accept to some.

We all love the idea that we can do all guilt-free and not feel the pangs of a conscience that’s instilled in us by a power apart from the state.

Care-free. We all hate having limits or parameters, whether it’s not being able to break the 10 commandments or just do things immoral set by society if it makes us feel good.

In the absolute sense: ‘we’re all human.’

While all these reasons to disbelieve a higher influence exist, I believe that the world nowadays is just lacking a lot of faith. From the small things to the large. Faith that one person in this world genuinely cares for them, faith to trust others, faith in what we used to believe was our calling, our vision.

Perhaps that’s why consumerism is so wonderfully rampant these days…we’re all so barren and dry inside that it’s the small and temporary pleasures we chase for week in week out, then becoming depressed if it goes in whack.

Today’s society needs a larger part of life to be satisfied, the feeling that we are following, being led and cared for by someone on whom we can depend on always and everywhere without fail. Our parents, friends and partners can lead us only to a certain way of the path, there are times when ’self’ reaches a moment of truth… most of the time we ignore it and continue with the small pleasures.

Now I am not implying we all MUST take on Christ or a religion to fulfill ourselves, but at least re-think (re-consider) our life structure.

What is our big picture?

Have we changed a life?

Our purpose?  Work, play…is that it?

We all have the strength and power to leave a mark on this earth, if you can affect one life, that is more than enough.

I think that’s all for now, if you’ve read this far THANK YOU!

Currently, I’m still struggling with where I want to go, where my road leads, what my purpose is…but I can trust that I am in good hands till I get there.

Is there any greater happiness? (maybe) for me right now…I think that’s more than enough to make my stay here with you all a wonderful experience.

Once again, thanks for letting me share what’s on my mind. I would love to hear what you all think.

Peace and God bless,

Dan

TED Video: Motivation – Tony Robbins

April 21st, 2008

During my many travels through the internets, I came upon this video (below) about motivation by Tony Robbins. The man is charismatic, empowering and all round nice guy.

If this doesn’t get you moving closer to a goal in life, whether it be the big goal in life or to diminishing the small yet fulfilling ones like cleaning up a room, spending 5 minutes more with family, a coffee chat with a good friend… please feel free to comment what you find motivating or if you just like the video.

Thanks and enjoy

Reformation! More for you! Live, not exist!

April 2nd, 2008

In an effort to reconnect myself to blogging and disconnect myself from distractions I have physically moved my homebase (my laptop) out of my room to a table.

Today’s thoughts?

I was reading the dumb little man’s post on ways to live and not merely exist. I guess this was one of many catalysts to get my rear in gear again.

Apart from 29.‘Stop playing video games. They might be fun, but they can take up way too much time. If you spend a lot of time playing online games, or computer solitaire, or Wii or Gameboy or whatever, consider going a week without it. Then find something else to do, outside.’ I can totally agree with each and every one (har har).

Mario is my one achilles.

Hopefully you read the article (LINK once again) and enjoy your day and I’ll definitely try and bump up the frequency and depth of my blog!

Cheers

3 Goals within 28 days. What’s yours?

February 13th, 2008

Hey guys, just a long day…so I’ll cut it short.

Today’s to-do list for me and all those out there.

1. Read a book within 28days – Currently reading Chronicles of Narnia.

2. Sleep more than 6 hours minimum (usually sitting at around 5)

3. Reduce time in front of a screen – TV, laptop etc.

If you’re doing all of these already I applaud you.

If you have any tips on daily life or your 3 goals, feel free to drop a line or specific help on those 3 goals.

All the best and good night!

Self-Motivation

February 12th, 2008

How do we perform at our peak on command? It’d be absolutely kick ass to know.

As a dancer that works a 9-5 I get 2 training sessions a week, so each session is important to me for getting better and just de-stressing.

Today was one of my ‘off’ days, so it is pretty frustrating when you can’t get into it or get into the flow.

There are also anxiety issues like being able to feel the music, doing things the right way etc. (blah blah)
So I came upon this advice:

Bruce Lee said “consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to mankind.”

He was absolutely correct. Self-consciousness is another word for self-doubt, which is a form of fear.

And fear is your enemy’s greatest weapon against you. It’s also the greatest obstacle between you and anything you desire.

The way to get rid of fear, permanently, is to train your mind to give up your emotional attachment to the outcome.

Train your mind to let go of your emotional attachment to the outcome, and Be as Bold as a Lion.

A Lion isn’t afraid of you. He isn’t afraid of losing. He doesn’t even think about it.

He just attacks, instinctively. Go for what you want in that way. Kick the ball out ahead of you and chase it, and stop thinking so much.

I’m not saying to be careless and foolhardy. I’m saying develop the Lion’s Intuitive Instinct and replace your self-doubt with it.

If you look deep enough, you’ll find self-doubt affecting everything you do.”

While many may disagree with advice, it’s just an added snippet to creating a platform to enhanced mental mind state.

Will let you know how things go!
